Spirits is a 3rd-person shooter about Isaac, a young psychic living in the 80's who enters a quarantined mall to save a friend from a deadly psychic disease.

 

This game was the capstone project of my final year at Sheridan College where I designed the characters, promo art, and textured assets (including maintaining related documentation).

The aesthetic was based on trending retro nostalgia (vaporwave, arcade; one of the core pillars) and was heavily influenced by psychic films such as Akira and Stranger Things.

Through the design of characters, environment, and atmosphere, I aimed to convey an air of mystery, power, and elements of secrecy in line with the film references.

CONCEPT

IN-GAME

Playable character Isaac and boss Maya are both psychics in their world, as indicated by the shared eye motif. Though while one is in control of their powers, the other is not, made obvious through Maya's contrasting monstrous appearance reminiscent of a TV screen.
